If you love snow, you're going to love winter in central New York. AccuWeather's long-range forecast team predicts an active season with snow and ice storms.

“I think you’re going to see a touch of winter in December. But I think its full force will hold out until after the new year," says AccuWeather Expert Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelo.

2020 will kick off with above-normal snowfall and maybe even some ice. “Whether or not it’s snowstorms, ice storms or mixed events, I do feel this is going to be an active year for the Northeast.”

The Farmers’ Almanac, is also predicting a freezing, frigid, and frosty winter. The first part of January could bring lots of snow, sleet and ice. But the end of the month may be even worse. "Watch out for what could prove to be a memorable storm producing hefty snows during the third week of January."

It's also going to be a cold winter. Really, really cold, with the coldest weather coming after the possible 'memorable storm.' "The coldest outbreak of the season should arrive during the final week of January and last through the beginning of February."

It'll take awhile to warm back up in central New York. "Spring will be slow to start. Occasional wet snow and unseasonably chilly conditions will hang on for a ride that you may not be able to get off until April," the Farmer's Almanac predicts.

Snowmobilers, skiiers and winter enthusiasts rejoice. It sounds like the perfect winter season for you. The rest of us will start planning our extended vacation somewhere sunny and warm.
