Come celebrate 200 years of the Erie Canal with the Oneida County Historical Council and the Canal Society of New York.

From May 19 - 21, learn about the history of the Erie Canal and surrounding areas with a weekend packed full of events and lectures.

The Erie Canal Bicentennial Conference begins Friday May 12 with talks about the engineering behind the canal and the history of its use.

There will be old documents from the construction of the canal and you'll hear how Central New Yorkers learned how to survey and create the canal.

The rest of the weekend will be filled with guided tours of historical sites throughout the area including historic canal sites like the Old Main, Oriskany Battlefield and other little known areas of the canal.

On Sunday you'll be able to take a two-hour cruise through 200 years of the Erie Canal history from Herkimer to Little Falls.
