A 'Dummy Light' is certainly an unusual name for a traffic signal.  It almost implies it is not even real or functional.  But it is, and it's the only one remaining in Upstate New York.

According to NewYorkUpstate.com, these pedestal lights were very common in the 1920's and 1930's.  This particular light was installed on Mohawk Street in Canajoharie back in 1926.  Since that time, other traffic lights have been place on wires or poles above intersections as not to interfere with traffic.

There are 2 other "dummy" lights in New York State, but both are located downstate, not far from the New York City area.
