New York State recently approved the sale of some fireworks, but allowed each county to make the decision on whether they would allow fireworks to be sold within their borders. Madison County approved fireworks sales, and several pop-up fireworks stands have taken up residence in Oneida.
For longer than anyone can remember the sale of most fireworks have been illegal in New York State. New legislation has been passed in Herkimer County and some other counties in New York State that would allow certain fireworks to be sold at certain times during the year.
