Tad Pole Remembers the Challenger 25 Years Later

Do you remember where you were twenty five years ago today? January 28, 1986 was the day the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds into flight. This video is the live coverage of the event.

I remember sitting in my office watching the coverage a few minutes before lift off. They were showing icicles hanging off the shuttle and it's rockets and honestly, I thought how can equipment go from freezing cold to hundreds or thousands of degrees and still work. The investigation showed that indeed the temperature fluctuation played a part in the failure of an O-Ring that led to the explosion.
