A World War II veteran in New York is 100 years-old and you can help celebrate the milestone by sending a birthday card.

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney is encouraging everyone to join him in sending a birthday card to Emil Valentine, a World War II veteran from the Hudson Valley.

Valentine served in the 27th Infantry Division during the war. He was deployed to the Pacific, where he encountered heavy fighting on beaches, and was attacked by kamikaze pilots. "He's always wanted birthday cards from the U.S. and around the world,” his family told Rep. Maloney’s office.

"Emil answered his country’s call to serve and now it’s our turn," said Rep Maloney. "We owe our veterans for their service and sacrifice, and this is one simple way to bring some joy to someone who really deserves it.”

Rep. Maloney presented Valentine with a flag flown over the United States Capitol on his 100th birthday, Monday, April 22nd. Cards can be sent to Emil Valentine until the end of April.
