Middleville volunteer firefighter Michele Morgan has inoperable pancreatic cancer. But she's not fighting the disease alone. She has an entire community supporting her.

A benefit for Morgan was held at West Canada Valley school, where parking was at a minimum. Yet, having to park so far away, showed the distance a community will go, to help one of their own. Former Middleville Mayor Liz Schrader, who organized the benefit says, "we wanted to show how we can stand together to help her fight this disease."

Stand together they did. Over 200 items were donated for the Chinese auction, several more for the silent auction and fire departments passed the boot to support Morgan, who's been a member of the Middleville Volunteer Fire Department for over 21 years. Her husband Donnie, Fire Department President, has served just as long, right by her side. They have not only touched people with their sincerity, but at times rescued their homes, families and even pets from destruction.

“It is time to return to her family what she has given to our community," says Schrader.

Hundreds showed up, including several public officials, who got a pie in the face, myself included. Thank you to Ray Donley of West Winfield for the $120 pie, that his son Dylan had the privilege of smearing in my face.

The event raised thousand for Morgan and her family and a Go Fund Me account has been set up as well. Donate at GoFundMe.com.
