Hunting season is fast approaching. This season may be the first hunting season you will ever take part in. New York Environmental officials are reminding new hunters, and trappers, they first need to take a safety and education course before receiving the license.

All first-time hunters must pass one or more courses before they can get a hunting license in New York. The courses cover topics like gun safety and hunter ethics. One perk, most of the courses are free to take.

These courses are filling up very quickly, so make sure to register ASAP. You can find a course near you by Clicking Here. Other courses covering different hunting techniques can be found here.

The 2015-2016 license fee is $22 (ages 16-69), $5 (ages 70+), and $5 (ages 12-15). Annual hunting licenses and privileges are valid from September 1 through August 31 each year.
