It was an ordinary pitch to Jordy Mercer of the Pittsburgh Pirates during a game last week, that turned dangerous very quickly. Mercer hit a line drive shot at the head of Marlins pitcher Dan Jennings. The 101 MPH shot caused the Miami pitcher to have a concussion and luckily nothing else.

Check Out This Horrifying Shot:

Incredibly, Jennings got right up after he was hit, but then started to slowly lose his balance, as a result of what was later determined to be his concussion. As you saw, Mercer of the Pirates felt very bad about it and sat by and watched as Marlins trainers saw to Jennings. With this eye-opening experience, Major League Baseball may want to look into mandating some sort of protective cap for pitchers.
