Can you imagine driving home from work and seeing a massive heard of buffalo on the side of the road? That's whats happening in Albany in the town of Bethlehem this afternoon.

Police have been attempting to round up a small herd of buffalo that escaped from a local farm and apparently swam across the Hudson River all throughout the day.

About 15 of the animals got loose Thursday from a farm in the Rensselaer County town of Schodack (SKOH'-dak), on the river's east bank a few miles southeast of Albany."

Unfortunately as we write this, the buffalo aren't getting a happy ending. Times Union is reporting that they are currently being shot to death:

At least three buffalo were shot and killed in a creek off of Willowbrook Avenue as authorities try to round up a herd of bison that escaped from a farm in Rensselaer County, crossed the Hudson River and bolted across the Thruway. "There is a zero percent chance of getting them back right now, I think. I just want to get this done with as fast as possible so that no one gets hurt.""

We will keep you updated as this story progresses throughout the afternoon.

UPDATE: 4:26PM- Reports are that all buffalo have been shot dead.
