The Ilion Days annual Doo-Dah Parade is coming up in July, but before it gets here Ilion Police want to make sure everyone stays dry.

Ilion Days is set for Saturday, July 14 through Sunday July 22 in and around the Village of Ilion with this year's theme 'Ilion Through the Years.'

The 2018 Doo-Dah Parade will be on Friday, July 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The community celebration is capped of every year with the Doo-Dah Parade through town where, on hot parade days in years past participants would toss water balloons and use squirt-guns to help cool off the spectators.

But in the parades 32nd year, the IPD has decided that this is no longer allowed.

Now I have lived in Ilion all my life and I barely ever missed a parade. The IPD always does a fantastic job of keeping the parade organized and everyone safe, but I honestly have no idea why this is an issue.

Last I checked, Ilion residents don't melt or turn into gremlins when they get wet.

There's no official explanation as to why the change was made on the Ilion Days Facebook page or website, nor is there any information on the Ilion PD's Facebook page.

My call to the Ilion Police Department for an explanation wasn't immediately returned.
