Just one day after learning Alex Karras was only given a few days to live, he passed away at the age of 77.

ScreenCrush is reporting Karras died of kidney failure following his struggle with various illnesses over the last several years, including kidney disease, heart disease, stomach cancer, and dementia. TMZ confirmed the news with a member of Karras’ family this morning.

Karras was a defensive superstar on the Detroit Lions from 1958 to 1970.  After his NFL career, Karras went to Hollywood where he played Mongo in "Blazing Saddles" and the father on the TV show 'Webster.'  I remember watching that show when I was growing up.  Rest in peace Alex, you will be missed.
