USPS Public Boating Safety Course

Welcome to the 2015 North American Safe Boating Campaign! With the start of this year’s boating season soon upon us we are reminded that safety should not be taken lightly.

The Utica Sail and Power Squadron will offer a boating safety course beginning Saturday, March 14 at the Cornell Cooperative Extension at 9 am until 3:30 PM. emphasizing and promoting awareness of safe boating practices for vessel owners, operators and their guests.

The boat safety class will continue at Cornell Cooperative Extension, on Tuesday March16, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The course is open to all adults and youngsters at least 10-years of age when accompanied by an adult enrolled in the class. Cost for a course text book is $30.00. All instruction is free and students may share text books. The boater safety course covers the fundamentals of safe boat handling, operation and etiquette, regulations, basic piloting, boating terminology, nautical chart usage, course plotting, and paddle-craft safety. Students who pass the course receive a US Power Squadrons Boating Course Graduate certificate that meets all New York State boating and personal watercraft requirements such as a jet skis Additional details can be obtained by calling David Schulz at 315-266-0511.
