A Facebook post about the Harden's Dam and Lock 22 breaking, causing flooding in Sylvan Beach is going around. It's been shared over 600 times since about 7:30 last night.

But it's all a hoax.

Not only did the dam not break, there is NO Fish Creek River and dam is not spelled damn. I'm not sure who runs the Facebook page, but they've upset a number of people and fooled even more into thinking it's real. April 1st was weeks ago.

There's a difference between a good prank and messing with people's lives. Flooding often occurs in the area, and there's no need to cause mass panic or cause extra, unnecessary work for emergency personnel, who I'm sure were flooded with calls from local residents.

Thanks to Jeff Monaski at our sister station WIBX, who alerted us to this hoax.

There are flood warnings and watches in affect for the Mohawk, Black and Moose Rivers, as well as West Canada Creek.

According to WIBX, Routes 8 and 28 bridge at West Canada Creek from Poland to Herkimer is closed due to flooding concerns. Partridge Hill Road between Dover and 28 is also closed.
