It remains unclear exactly what heavily armed police units were investigating in Chadwicks on Monday, but many residents around the 3300 block of Oneida Street were stuck inside their homes, while others were left standing on a street corner until they were eventually allowed to return home just before midnight.

Two New Hartford Police vehicles were blocking Oneida Street at Grange Hill Road late into Monday evening. Residents told WIBX the road had been blocked since about 5:00 p.m., and police had been on scene since around 3:30. They had been told by police, they said, that residents in their homes would be staying put for the night, and that those not home would likely not be allowed to return until the situation was cleared.  Just before midnight, though, the vehicles blocking the road pulled into a nearby parking lot, and uniformed police motioned to residents that it was safe to return home. Members of a what appeared to be an armed tactical unit dressed in camouflage walked down Oneida Street and back to their vehicles, and an armored vehicle marked 'Utica Police E.R.T' also left the scene. Several police cars with lights flashing remained on parked on Oneida Street shortly after 12:00 a.m.

The residents WIBX spoke to believed police were focused on the Life Christian Church, or a property adjacent to it. They reported hearing no commotion or gunshots.

The Utica Observer Dispatch reported earlier on Monday that an unidentified 19-year-old male was take to the St Luke's Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System with 'extensive' injuries at around 12:30 p.m., and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The OD also reported that police were called to nearby Clayville at around the same time for a 'firearm accident.' It is unclear if the two incidents are releated.

(Correction: This story reported earlier that the male taken to the hospital on Monday afternoon had suffered a gunshot wound. The type of injuries he suffered from have not been released by police.)
