July 28, 2012 When my wife and I purchased a winter getaway home in Cape Coral last month we knew we would have to go down and set up shop. We also heard that July in Florida was, to put it mildly, hot enough to melt steel. This past week we experienced that first hand. The heat and the humidity had us in the car heading to Fort Myers Beach ASAP. Did we find blessed relief?
Even though Chemung County is a little out of our listening area, the city’s Emergency Management Office is reporting a tornado came through Elmira yesterday (Thursday) after 4pm causing significant damage.
A doppler indicated tornado has stuck the Southern Tier city of Elmira. Reports are coming in via Twitter of significant damage.
Whitesboro, NY (WIBX) – Work crews are still working to restore power to some neighborhoods after a power thunder storm last night. Most roads in the City of Utica and surrounding areas have been reopened. Wood Rd in Whitesboro will reopen at 11:00 this morning. These images were taken in Whitesboro where power is still out for some residents. Several trees were also down in the neighborhood.
July 20, 2012 The National Weather Service is calling it the worst drought in almost 50 years. Its effect on food prices, especially corn and soybeans, will be deeply felt in the weeks and months to come. According to a report from Reuters some 55% of the lower 48 states are experiencing drought conditions with little relief in sight. The midwest has been the hardest hit but now the dry conditions are moving eastward.
July 13, 2012 T.G.I.F....and Friday the 13th at that! Another scorcher is expected today with temps hitting the 90s, and Saturday as well. We'll kick off today's "Country Classic Double" with a song all about this heat wave (sort of), "When You're Hot, You're Hot", by the late Jerry Reed which was the number one country song on this day back in 1971.
June 30, 2012 The "Frog Days Of Summer" are heating up again, and with it comes those comments we tend to hear from friends, co-workers and strangers while we're waiting in line at a convenience store. As temps may hit 90 today, make sure you stay hydrated, don't over exert, and be sure that your pets are in a cool place with plenty of water.
June 25, 2012 When we told friends we were buying a winter getaway place in Florida they all said "Watch out for those hurricanes". Well, it's not a hurricane (yet) but Tropical Storm Debbie has been drenching central and northern Florida the past few days . CNN reports that the storm is far from over.
June 20, 2012 It's the first day of summer, and already we're having a heat wave. If you work outside or plan some outdoor activity in the next couple of days, be careful. And if you have pets, make sure they are kept out of the heat and have plenty of water.

The exact arrival of summer is 7:09 PM (EDT) and it marks the farthest point north of the equator that the sun will reach before starting it slow journey southward.
