When it was announced Garth Brooks was coming to Albany for the first time in 20 years, fans remembered the last time they saw him in concert. For Melonie Race of Boonville, it was a bittersweet memory of 1998 in Syracuse when Brooks granted her sister's dying wish.

Race's sister Raechel Dyer was diagnosed with short gut syndrome in 1998. She was put on a waiting list for a small intestine and liver transplant and endured several surgeries at her tender age of just of 8.

During her fight for life the Make a Wish foundation got involved. Raechel's wish was to see Garth Brooks in concert. But Race says Garth did one better and held a personal concert just for her. "Garth Brooks is an amazing man. We will forever hold that day in our hearts."

Unfortunately Raechel lost her battle and passed away in October of 98, ten days before her 11th birthday. "I cried when I saw he was coming this close to home, just thinking about the memories and what an amazing guy he is," says Race.

If you haven't had the opportunity to see Garth in concert, you won't be disappointed. His shows are almost as spectacular as his heart.
