If you're driving through New Jersey you may not be able to eat and drive. A bill would ban not only having a bit behind the wheel, but drinking your morning cup of joe too.

The legislation under consideration would ban "any activity unrelated to the actual operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that interferes with the safe operation of the vehicle on a public road or highway." In other words, no eating, no drinking, no putting on makeup, no reading a book. Eyes on the road. Hands on the wheel.

Caught with coffee? Your first fine will cost you between $200 and $400. Caught again. You'll pay between $400 and $600. A third fine could see you forfeiting your license for 90 days.

Will a new bill really stop people from eating and drinking and while driving? A law banning talking or texting on cell phones while driving has been in affect for years and you see it every day.

What about changing a radio station? Will that be banned too? I'm all for trying to decrease traffic accidents, but banning drinking coffee while driving seems a bit extreme. If drinking coffee causes you crash, the coffee isn't the problem. Maybe it's your driving skills.

Do you think the bill should be passed?
