If you're heading to the water, be on the lookout. There's an alligator on the loose in central New York.

Kayakers discovered the gator along the Tioughnioga River between Whitney Point and Lisle. Whitney Point Mayor Ryan Reynolds says the Department of Environmental Conservation has been contacted and is hoping to capture and relocate the gator.

"The DEC believes it was once someone's pet and was let go in the area sometime in the last month," explains Ryan on Facebook.

If you see the alligator, don't get near it. Contact the DEC immediately at 607-753-3095.
