Willie Nelson Set to Star in New Western Film With Neil Young
Willie Nelson is set to appear alongside classic rock icon Neil Young in a new western directed by Young's girlfriend, Daryl Hannah. It's titled Paradox, and it will premiere at the annual South by Southwest festival, held in Austin, Texas, in March.
Nelson's two youngest sons, Lukas and Micah, will also appear in the production. Lukas Nelson helms the band The Promise of the Real, who backed Young on his studio albums The Monsanto Years and The Visitor.
According to the SXSW website, the film will explore the following narrative: "Time is fluid in this far-fetched, whimsical western tale of music and love. Somewhere in the future past, The Man In the Black Hat hides out between heists at an old stagecoach stop with Jail Time, the Particle Kid, and an odd band of outlaws. Mining the detritus of past civilizations, they wait … for the Silver Eagle, for the womenfolk, and for the full moon’s magic to give rise to the music and make the spirits fly.”
While this description is a bit (perhaps purposely) ambiguous, to say the least, it does mark seasoned actor Hannah’s first feature-length film as a director. She previously directed Young in his 2017 webcast, Somewhere in Canada.
Nelson has been battling some health issues at the top of 2018, but has a show scheduled Feb. 7 in Macon, Ga. The Country Music Hall of Famer released God's Problem Child in 2017 and continues to create new music in addition to spending time on the road.
