Funny that I was just having a conversation this weekend about pheasant hunting.  I didn't know you could even find them in New York, let alone Central new York.  The Department of Environmental Conservation releases about 30-thousand birds every year.

When, where and what you can hunt varies by region, but the season basically runs October 15 through February 28. Here's a map that details dates and when you can take roosters and hens.  Below are the release locations throughout Central and Upstate New York.

Oneida County

Rome - Rome Wildlife Management Area
Verona - Verona Beach State Park Co-op; Hunters are required to sign-in and obtain a seasonal hunting permit from the Utica DEC office (315-793-2554) or the Verona Beach State Park office (315-762-4463)

Herkimer County

Danube - Nowadaga Creek (canal)

Madison County

Hamilton - South of the Village of Hamilton along Payne Brook to Middleport Rd. or Rt. 77
Lenox - Ditch Bank Road along Cowaselon Creek

Onondaga County

Lysander - Three Rivers Wildlife Management Area

Oswego County

Richland - Deer Creek Marsh Wildlife Management Area
West Monroe - Three-Mile Bay Wildlife Management Area

Jefferson County

Brownville - Perch River Wildlife Management Area
Cape Vincent - Ashland Wildlife Management Area
Clayton - French Creek Wildlife Management Area

Lewis County

Martinsburg - East Martinsburg Rd.
Whitestown - Oriskany Flats Wildlife Management Area
Canton - Upper & Lower Lakes Wildlife Management Area
Louisville - Wilson Hill Wildlife Management Area
Macomb - Fish Creek Wildlife Management Area

Chenango County

Smithville - Long Pond State Forest
