Verona, NY (WIBX) – A large crowd watched as the West team shot its way to victory, edging out the East team, 8 to 6, during the fifth annual NB3 Foundation Challenge at Turning Stone’s Atunyote Golf Club.

This year’s format was different than in year’s past, with an East vs. West match-up.

Players for the West included Tiger Woods, Begay III and Cristie Kerr, while the East featured K.J. Choi, Danny Lee and Yani Tseng.

The match was close until Cristie Ker sunk a birdie shot on the 18th hole. Begay III solidified the victory soon after, sinking the final shot for a birdie on the last hole.

Each year, the NB3 Foundation Challenge raises money and awareness to reduce obesity and type-2 diabetes in Native American youth.

This year’s event raised $500,000 for programs, such as health and wellness programming and community-based prevention initiatives. Since the foundation began, more than $3 million has been donated to the cause, assisting more than 10,000 Native American children.
