A round of applause for Wal-Mart.  Starting on Memorial Day, the company will hire 100,000 veterans over the next five years. Anyone who served their country and was honorably discharged has been promised a job within 12 months of returning home.

This is the best news I've heard in some time.  Anyone who puts their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe should never go without a place to live, food to eat and a job to earn money for their family.  It's the least they deserve.  I've always thought there wasn't enough being done to support the men and women in the military.  Way to go Wal-Mart!

According to Navy veteran, William S. Simon, the president and chief executive of Wal-Mart:

Hiring a veteran can be one of the best decisions any of us can make. Veterans have a record of performance under pressure. They’re quick learners, and they’re team players. These are leaders with discipline, training, and a passion for service. There is a seriousness and sense of purpose that the military instills, and we need it today more than ever.

First lady Michelle Obama, whose program Joining Forces assists returning veterans and military families, supports Wal-Mart 'No one who serves our country should have to fight for a job once they return home. Wal-Mart is setting a groundbreaking example for the private sector to follow.'
