You'll have the opportunity to see what 'doing time' in Herkimer was like more than 100 years ago with tours of the historic jailhouse during Herkimer's Diamond Days celebration.

"Friends of Historic Herkimer County" will be giving tours of the jail on the hour, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the last one at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday August 4.

You'll learn about the history of the Jail and some of its most famous prisoners, like Chester Gillette from the 1906 Big Moose tragedy, whose jail cell can be seen on the tour.

The tours are free, but donations are gratefully accepted.

The 1834 Jail is at 327 N. Main Street in Herkimer. For more information, call 315-866-6413.
