Tornado Warning in Central New York Take Cover Now
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for Central Oneida County in central New York and Northwestern Madison County and are advising residents take cover now!
At 443 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Sullivan, or 11 miles west of Oneida, moving east at 45 mph.
Radar indicated rotation. Wind damage was reported in Syracuse. Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.
TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
The Tornado Warning is in effect until 5:15pm
A Flash Flood Warning has also been issued for Oneida County from the National Weather Service until 7:45 PM.
Local law enforcement reported street flooding in Vienna due to thunderstorms. One inch of rain has already fallen in the past hour and more thunderstorms are on the way.
Rome, Lee, Vienna, Trenton, Camden, Steuben, Sylvan Beach, Remsen, Holland Patent and Prospect may all experience flooding.
If you come to a flooded street, turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads.
