Tips And Tricks To Catching The Best Walleye
One of my favorite fish to catch is Walleye. However, they aren't always the easiest fish to land on your line. Here's a few different tips/tricks/techniques that will help you catch some good Walleye.
Try Using Live Bait
There are four types of live bait that are recommended for walleye: minnows, leeches and night crawlers. The season also has a major impact on what you should use:
Spring: Minnows, Small Red Tail Chubs and Fatheads
Summer: Leeches and Night Crawlers
Fall: Minnows Large Red Tail Chubs and Small Suckers
Winter: Minnows: Large Shiners, Red Tail Chubs and Small Suckers"
Seems like this is some pretty solid advice.
Try Figuring Out If You're Fishing In The Right Spots
Remember: in early spring Walleye are right close to shore or in areas with sand like a sand bar right next to the shore.
The location of sand is very important because that's where they spawn. They will also spawn in river current. At this time of year the Walleyes are very aggressive and will hit just about any lure."
Remember this when you attempt to find the perfect spot.
Use Light
When you're fishing for walleyes you have to remember they are notoriously photosensitive. Most fisherman fish for them at night.
Trolling with floating/diving minnows alongside structure or casting to the flats where the fish move up to feed are productive techniques. Both methods work well in rivers, too, though some anglers jig as they would any other time."
Attempt attaching a light source to your fishing technique....if that makes sense.
