If you get excited for the leaves changing every year and you are looking for a unique foliage trip this year, you need to check out Amtrak's Great Dome Car.

The Great Dome Car is the last of its kind still in service today.

Built in 1955 and refurbished over the years, the Great Dome Car boasts an upper level that has windows on all sides and even on the roof so you can see unobstructed views of New York's fall foliage.

Central New Yorkers can take advantage of the Adirondack runs that begin in Albany and can take you as far as Montreal through the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain region.

Imagine seeing the leaves from Central NY all the way to the North Country without having to drive!

Amtrak hasn't released a schedule for 2017 yet, but trips generally begin at the end of September and run through the beginning of November.
