Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o lead the Fighting Irish to the BCS championship during an emotional season. In the fall of 2012 it was reported that Te'o lost his grandmother and girlfriend on the same day, leading to an outpouring national support for the star linebacker. Today Te'o admitted his girlfriend did not exist and he claims to have been duped by a hoax.

The Alabama Crimson Tide captured their 2nd consecutive BCS National Championship and 3rd in 4 years. Alabama opened up a 28-0 halftime lead on the way to a 42-14 rout.

After capping an undefeated regular season with a 22-13 win over USC, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play for the BCS Championship for the first time in school history.
