Harmful Algal Blooms have closed four New York beaches as many are looking for relief from the extreme heat that has hit the state.

Last summer several lakes in New York were essentially shut down due to dangerous algae blooms that developed on local lakes and a few beloved pets died after swimming in infected lakes.

You'll have to find somewhere else to beat the heat in central New York than Verona Beach State Park. The swimming area is closed due to harmful green algae.

The state Department of Environmental is reporting that toxic algae blooms have been discovered in 55 water bodies across the state.
