Strong storms are in store for central New York. Heavy rainfall, flooding, hail and gusty winds could hit Oneida, Onondaga and Madison counties the rest of the week according to the National Weather Service.

We'll kick off August with several chances for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday through Friday . Heavy rainfall could cause isolated flooding of smaller streams, creeks and poor drainage areas. Areas already soaked with heavy rainfall in the past week, will be more vulnerable.

The worst of the storms are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening with gusty winds and possible hail.

Wednesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 82. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Chances of showers continue through Friday night but the weekend is looking picture perfect with sunshine and temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.
