Every day is Earth Day at The Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority. However, the official Earth Day celebration across the U.S. is April 21. And they'll be doing some celebrating on that day at the recycling center with some special guests.

Usually, a business would be a bit nervous about getting a visit from New York's Department of Environmental Conservation. This visit is to salute the Center's annual Earth Day events where for years residents have been able to recycle materials for free. This year they'll be accepting old prescription drugs, hazardous waste, and offer free confidential paper recycling at their 80 Leland Avenue Extension in Utica from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The DEC will bring Woodsy the Owl with them, and the Utica Comet's Audie and Utica Zoomobile are coming too. There are tours of the Recycling Center, several kids activities and the Land and Forests division of the DEC will be passing out free seedlings. A complete list of the day's events is at the Authority's website.
