How One Bath Changed a Central New York Veteran’s Life
CNY Army Veteran Gets a Bathroom That Finally Works for Him
After 25 years in the U.S. Army — including tours in Iraq and Afghanistan — one Central New York veteran has earned a lot of things, but a comfortable, safe place to bathe wasn’t one of them… until now.
James, who lives in Madison, New York, was recently chosen for a Shower for a Soldier Bath Makeover.
This program honors local veterans who have faced tough battles at home as well as overseas, especially when everyday tasks like bathing are harder than they should be.
What James Has Been Through
Serving three tours overseas left its mark — and the challenges didn’t stop when James came home. He continued serving with the Army Reserve for another 11 years after active duty.
On top of that, he deals with health issues, including PTSD related to his service and recovery from skin cancer surgery.
With all of that, tackling a major home improvement project just didn’t make the priority list.
A Space Designed for Healing
The redesigned bathroom now features a deep soaking tub that’s about comfort and recovery — a far cry from the awkward setup James had before.

Within days of the install, James and his family said the space was already making a difference in the way he relaxes and rests.
