Rome Police are currently on the scene of a barricaded subject in a home on the 100 block of East Bloomfield Street.

Rome PD Captain Tim Bates says officers responded to a call to check on the welfare of an adult man around 10:00 this morning and were met at the door by the suspect who threatened officers with a sharp object.

Bates says the situation will play out as long as it needs to.  He says they have established contact with the man, who is alone inside the house.

Police say there is no immediate threat to the public, however, they are requesting the public stay away from the 100 block of East Bloomfield, as well as Parry Street.

Those roads are currently closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Police negotiators are on the scene.
