Remember those days in music class? Learning to play an instrument in a room full of kids blowing, strumming or drumming to their own beat. That sound could be heard through the halls from miles away. That class also left memories that'll last a lifetime.

Do you remember what instrument you tired to master? For me it was the clarinet. I went through so many wooden reeds trying to figure out how to not make it sound like a goose in distress. For Tad, believe it or not, it was the ukulele. It's hard to even picture him choosing that instrument, never mind playing it.

Our daughter Shayna had that plastic flute. Is there anything more annoying than the honks coming from a recorder? I know she's suppose to practice, but it may have been easier in the garage or outside so everyone can enjoy her music. Thank God that was only a requirement for one school year. I don't know if I could have taken two.

What instrument did you play?

You can help kids make their own memories by giving 'The Gift of Music,' and donating your old instruments May 14th at Sangertown Square center court 10a-6p.
