A lot of sewage has poured into Onondaga Lake after a pipe break. And I mean ALOT!

An alert issued the State of New York indicates that 4.5 million gallons of sewage poured out of "Broken Force Main." At one point the agency estimated 9000 gallons were flowing from the break every minute.

What makes it even more frustrating is the pipe has apparently broken more than once in the past few years. An article at Syracuse.com says the same thing has happened 3 times in the past 5 years as the infrastructure is 50 years old.

Taking it to the disgusting level is the definition of sewage by the NY DEC.

Sewage is water mixed with human or animal wastes from residences, buildings, industrial establishments or other places. This water is called wastewater and is conveyed (through a collection system) to wastewater treatment facilities to be treated.

Yuk to the 10th power.
