The Australian-themed steakhouse, based in Tampa, Florida, was founded in 1988 and has over 1,000 locations in 23 countries throughout North and South America, Asia, and Australia.

In 2017, 43 under performing restaurants closed as Bloomin Brands worked to reallocate spending from discounting to strengthening brand health. "We are pleased with how our brands are performing, particularly at Outback where we believe our investments are beginning to gain traction," said CEO Liz Smith.

Performance at the New Hartford Outback Steakhouse must not have gained as much traction as corporate officials hoped.

Outback joins a long list of restaurants and businesses that have closed over the past few years in central New York.
