Scammers are becoming more and more aggressive in their attempt to gather our personal information. And they are also getting better and hiding the fact that they are scammers.

Widespread phishing and social engineering scams are now targeting patients who use MyChart, the online patient portal used by many major healthcare systems.

Consumer protection agencies, healthcare providers, and Epic Systems have issued nationwide warnings about the campaign. MyChart itself has not been hacked or breached but scammers are impersonating the platform to trick users.

How the Scam Works

Scammers are sending convincing fraudulent emails, text messages, and sometimes making phone calls that mimic official healthcare alerts.

Messages claiming you have new lab/test results, an urgent message from your doctor, or an update regarding an appointment.

Notifications claiming you have an unpaid medical balance or outstanding bill.

Offers for a "MyChart Medicare Kit" or "Senior Health Package" that require you to cover a small "shipping fee" with your credit card.

Clicking links in the messages takes victims to sophisticated copycat websites designed to steal usernames, passwords, insurance details, and payment information.

Some advanced versions even try to trick users into executing malicious scripts or downloading malware.

How to Protect Yourself

Never click links or buttons inside text messages or emails regarding healthcare alerts. Instead, open your official MyChart mobile app or navigate directly to your healthcare provider’s official website.

Real MyChart notifications typically come from your specific healthcare organization or MyChart Central, not random web domains

Scammers often use countdown timers or threats of expired benefits to cause panic, so you act without thinking.

MyChart handles your medical records and billing, but it does not run product giveaways or sweepstakes.

What to Do If You Think You've Been Targeted

If you entered your login credentials on a suspicious site, immediately go to the official portal to change your MyChart password.

If you entered credit card or financial details, call your bank immediately to report fraud and request a new card.

Let your healthcare system know so they can flag your account for security monitoring.
