Water Could Cost More in Central New York Next Year

You could be paying more for your water in central New York.

The Mohawk Valley Water Authority is proposing a 2.5 percent rate hike that would take effect on January 1st.

The increase would mean about $12.75 cents a year in higher water costs for the average household, or just over $1 per month.

Reasons for the rate hike include an overall increase in operating costs and an increase in workers compensation premiums.

A public hearing on the rate increase will be held on Monday, October 28th at 5:00 p.m. in the MVWA's Board room on the third floor of Utica City Hall.

The MVWA Board of Directors will vote on the rate increase at its monthly meeting following the hearing.
