In some small towns, it's the little things they offer that bring people into the community. For Amsterdam, NY it was the creative idea to put the characters from the animated films, "Despicable Me" and "Minions" on plain yellow concrete posts located downtown. People from all over would come visit to have their photo taken with the little concrete creatures, but now they are gone.

According to an article on the Times Union website, the posts were painted last year by former mayor, Ann Thane, and now that there is a NEW mayor in town, they have been painted back to their plain yellow color.

It would be overstating things to say that the Minions were a tourist attraction, but people sure seemed to like having their photos taken with them. They gave people a reason to visit and feel better about a downtown that has suffered many losses in recent decades, with few gains.

their town to do it was doing some good? Is it also reasonable for the new mayor to have had them painted over? With portrayal of movie characters, sometimes there is the risk of a lawsuit from the film studio, but that may not be the case here. Whatever your opinion may be, the little posts were cute and probably brought at least one smile to someone driving by having a bad day. What do you think? If it brings some light to a dark spot in the place you lived in, would you be open to something like this in your town?
