Watch Lady Antebellum’s Kooky, Thanksgiving-Themed ‘Old Town Road’ Spoof
Some things are so bizarre that they almost defy description. So it is with "Turkey Mode," the new Thanksgiving-themed, emoji-addled Lil Nas X parody unleashed upon the world by Lady Antebellum's goofy alter ego, Lady Haze.
Set to a dizzying backdrop of twirling drumsticks, ears of corn and unicorns, the song's lyrics revel in the glory of over-eating during the holiday. "I'm gonna slap this thing into Turkey Mode / I'm gonna eat 'til I can't no more," its lyrics insist, putting a hilarious Thanksgiving spin on the ubiquitous monster hit "Old Town Road." And that's before you even get to the part where Charles Kelley rocks out in a turkey suit!
Longtime Lady A fans may pick up on the fact that this isn't Lady Haze's first time out to play. In fact, the parody band released a series of videos in 2011 and 2012 documenting their zany takes of various country hits. Jerrod Niemann's "Lover, Lover" became "Mother, Mother," a Mother's Day lament about growing up and not getting free food from your mom anymore. Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem" was re-fashioned as "Country Club Anthem," complete with a swagger-filled music video set on a golf course.
Dierks Bentley and Colt Ford have both sat in with Lady Haze on one occasion or another. No country song -- and no country artist -- is safe from the band's quirky ministrations, even if Lady Haze hasn't been terribly active lately.
When not moonlighting as their goofball alter-egos, Lady Antebellum are celebrating their new (and much more straight-faced) album Ocean, including the chart-climbing lead single, "What if I Never Get Over You." The band has described their new project as their most personal, vulnerable and reflective to date.
