Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick Found Out They're Related

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been married for more than three decades, but there was one thing they didn't know about their relationship until they appeared on television together.

They're related!

The Hollywood couple appeared on PBS's Finding Your Roots, where host Henry Louis Gates Jr. helped trace their family histories. That's when Bacon and Sedgwick discovered that their family trees actually connect.

Don't worry. The connection is pretty distant.

Bacon and Sedgwick were found to be ninth cousins once removed.

Kyra's reaction to the surprising discovery was pretty perfect. She joked, "As long as we're not first cousins, it's fine."

Kevin Bacon Has Some Other Famous Relatives

Apparently, Kevin Bacon's family tree has quite a few familiar names hiding in it.

During his time on Finding Your Roots, Bacon also discovered that he and actor Brad Pitt are 13th cousins twice removed.

And there's another pretty famous name connected to the Bacon family tree. The genealogy research found that Bacon and former President Barack Obama are 12th cousins three times removed.

So, Kevin Bacon can add his wife, Brad Pitt, and a former president to a very, very distant family reunion guest list.

And Then There's the Kevin Bacon Connection

Of course, Bacon has another claim to fame when it comes to connections.

His name has become part of pop culture thanks to the famous Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game, based on the idea that almost any actor can be connected to Bacon through six or fewer movie roles.

But it turns out Bacon's own family tree is pretty entertaining without playing the game.
