Jim Burback and KAB Farms of Canastota – Thank a Farmer Grand Prize Winners [VIDEO]

Congratulations to the Burback family and KAB Farms in Canastota.  They are our 'Thank a Farmer' grand prize winners, receiving $2500 White's Farm Supply gift certificate and a personal phone call from James Wesley to 'Thank a Farmer.  Andy Burback says he 'feels honored' to win.  His girlfriend Penny Patterelli nominated the family and sent this special entry.

James Burback Sr. was a lifelong farmer of Canastota, NY. His father before him lived and died on the same farm that Jim ran two days before he went into the hospital. Jim was a great man. He was a loving father, husband, uncle and grandfather. Jim never complained about not feeling well, on Saturday June 22 we had a gathering at our house for a farm family picnic. Jim went home early, saying he had a "bug" and was going to the doctors Monday afternoon. By Monday evening he was at an area hospital and had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We only had him a few more weeks, on July 17, 2013 God called Jim home to be with his loving wife Donna who passed away years before of esophageal cancer.

He taught his son's to grow up knowing what a hard days work really consisted of. Neither one of them refuse to give up on the farm. Some think the farm might not make it without Jim, but I know those two men and if they are even a little bit like their father and I believe they are, KAB Farms will be around for a very long time. The family is still mourning, but you can tell Jim still lives on with every sun rise and set on the Burback farm. Please help us honor this great man!!!
