Days after Alan Jackson's all-star farewell concert in Nashville, the country legend appeared as part of the lineup for PBS' annual Independence Day concert special, A Capitol Fourth.

Ahead of the broadcast, fans wondered whether Jackson's performance would be live, since he retired from touring last month. Turns out, it wasn't: As he began to sing "America the Beautiful," a message appeared across the screen explaining that his rendition was pre-taped at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

He delivered a rendition of the classic patriotic song "America the Beautiful," featuring a photo montage of scenes of natural beauty from across the United States.

Jackson performed his rendition of "America the Beautiful" seated on a stool, strumming his acoustic guitar along with gentle accompaniment from his backing band.

American flags decked out the stage behind him, and as he moved through the song's second verse, stage video cut to a series of photos and videos taken across America, starting with the Nashville skyline. Jawdropping mountain ranges, clear waters and national landmarks like the Grand Canyon were also featured.

Another shot put a spotlight on military service members, saluting against a backdrop of the American flag.

At the end of his performance, Jackson placed one handover his heart and briefly bowed his head.

Which Other Country Stars Performed For PBS' A Capitol Fourth?

This year, PBS' annual patriotic special highlighted the nation's 250th birthday, billing itself as A Capitol Fourth: 250th Weekend Celebration. It premiered on Friday (July 3.) A number of performers from various genres joined the bill, plus groups like the The National Symphony Orchestra, The United States Army Band and the Joint Armed Forces Chorus.

From the country genre, Carly Pearce and Trace Adkins performed in addition to Alan Jackson.

Pearce sang "The Star-Spangled Banner," as well as "This Land is Your Land." Adkins performed "American Made" and "Still a Soldier" during his appearance on the broadcast.
