If sitting on a frozen lake sounds like your idea of the perfect relaxation therapy, the NYS DEC is inviting you to learn more about the chilly sport.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a free ice-fishing clinic in Rensselaer County on January 26 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Tomhannock Reservoir in Pittstown, near Troy.

Anglers of any age are welcome especially those new to the sport of ice fishing who want to learn more about techniques, bait and tackle, equipment and ice safety.

The DEC will supply bait and tackle but experienced anglers are encouraged to bring your own fishing gear. There will be a warming hut and DEC staff will provide instruction and tips.
