Over the course of the last few years, Polly and I have been fortunate enough to visit several of Central New York's farms filming our Farm Hands show. With the more recent Cooking With Polly segments on our Facebook page, we've met even more local producers who specialize in growing vegetables, herbs, and spices and creating unique products. While you'll find many of these operations present at local Farmer Markets, they remain unknown to the general public. A food distributor is about to change all that by adding a new warehouse in Clinton.

Hudson Harvest is a food distributor, who for the past 10 years has taken products grown in the Hudson Valley and introduced them to retailers, restaurants, catering services, wholesalers, and schools in New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut. With the opening of a second warehouse in Clinton, Hudson Harvest CNY will follow a similar path in Central and Upstate New York.

This will be a huge boon for local farmers who will be able to expand their market without the expense of transportation and marketing. The company will operate out of a temporary warehouse at Georges Farm Products and Garden Center on Kirkland Avenue in Clinton. Hudson Harvest, who only works with New York state producers, has already secured 40 producers in Central and Upstate New York.

The company will begin taking orders April 6, then start distributing products from area growers and producers the following week. Initially, products will be distributed to their customers from Ft. Plain west to Geneva, including the Utica, Rome, and Syracuse markets and south to Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and the Finger Lakes.

Neil Miller, General Manager of Hudson Valley CNY says the company is in the midst of completing a larger warehouse on Route 12B near the Kirkland Town Hall. Eyeing the future, Miller thinks they will look for additional farms and producers in the coming months to add to their distribution list. Further down the road, some Central and Upstate New York products will make their way to the Hudson Valley Distribution point and vice versa.
