They’re calling him Saratoga’s miracle.

His name is Twin B Speed Dial… but most people just call him “Speedy.”

And after what happened at Barn 21, it’s hard to argue with that nickname.

The Night Everything Changed

In the middle of the night on the Saratoga backstretch, a fire broke out in Barn 21.

What happened next still doesn’t fully make sense to the people who were there. Horses don’t usually panic and run out when they’re trained to go back to their stalls for safety.

Speedy was on the opposite side of the barn, in a stall with a guard and a rubber “noodle” chain. Nothing about his setup suggested escape was possible. And yet somehow, he broke free—through the stall guard, through the shedrow, and then through a chain blocking the exit.

And then… he kept going.

The Only One Who Got Out

While other horses in nearby barns either stayed in place or couldn’t make it out, Speedy was the only horse from Barn 21 to escape.

No one can explain it.

At 2:30 in the morning, everything changed in a matter of minutes, and Speedy somehow made the choices that kept him alive.

Recovery, Healing, and Hard Truths

Speedy survived, but not without injury.

He has burns to his ears, his hind end, and cuts and scrapes from the fire. More concerning, he may also be dealing with lung damage and trauma-related stress.

Vets have already said he likely won’t race again. His team, Tim Benson and Abigail Adsit, agreed—he’s 12 years old, and after everything he’s been through, racing isn’t the priority anymore.

Instead, the focus is simple: healing.
