We're less than a month into winter and already reported cases of flu are skyrocketing. And we haven't hit the biggest part of the cold and flu season. Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties are reporting the highest number of cases in Central New York. Ready to give a home remedy a shot?

This remedy comes without any proven science to back it up, no doctor recommendations, only the word from one of our faithful listeners named Chuck. He says his grandmother introduced the drink, similar to a Hot Toddy, to him in his teens and he hasn't had a lingering cold or flu in 30 years.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 shots of Ginger Brandy
  • 2 shots of Honey
  • 2 tbs of Lemon Juice
  • Pinch of Cayenne Pepper

PREPARATIONS:

Heat the brandy, honey, and lemon juice in a saucepan until it starts to boil and the honey dissipates. Pour the mixture into a juice glass and add a heavy pinch of the cayenne pepper to the top of it. Drink it as hot as you can handle.

Chuck says one drink before bedtime when you start to feel the onset of a cold or flu shloud do the trick. If your cold or flu is already underway, it may be needed before bedtime a couple of times.

Polly gave it a try and although she wasn't a fan of how it tasted, she did wake up feeling a bit better.
