Don't look now, but gas prices are on the rise.

According to AAA Northeast, the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular in New York is $2.66 a gallon, 12 cents higher than the national average.

AAA Northeast General Manager Ed Welsh says prices have gone up about 20 cents a gallon over the past month.

Crude oil prices have continued their ascent in recent days, due to a growing belief that global supplies are tightening,” said Welsh.  “The start of refinery maintenance season plus the increased demand that comes with milder weather is pulling pump prices higher”

The average price in the Utica-Rome area is $2.66 a gallon.

Welsh says AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area.
