Follow Santa’s Trek Around The World With NORAD
You can follow Santa's trip around the world with The Santa Tracker. For more than 50 years, NORAD has followed Santa as he leaves the North Pole. It all started in 1955 with a misprinted phone number for Sears.
In 1955 a newspaper ad for a Colorado Sears store incorrectly gave the phone number for NORAD instead of the store's Santa line.
Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations "hotline." The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born.
Since that Christmas, NORAD employees have volunteered each year to keep the service going. And now with the world wide web, you can track Santa from the comfort of your computer and smart devices.
You can find tracking maps, music, games and more fun at NORAD's official Santa Tracking website. The tracker will be up and running on December 1, 2020.
