Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley Is Co-Producing a Country Musical
Florida Georgia Line member Brian Kelley is co-producing a new country music musical. Named May We All, the project will feature music from Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney and many more.
According to Variety, May We All will feature hit songs from more than two dozen country stars. In addition to FGL, Lambert and Chesney, the stage musical will include tracks from icons including Loretta Lynn and Brooks & Dunn, the bluegrass-leaning Alison Krauss, modern stars such as the Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain, and even newcomer Ashley McBryde.
May We All takes its name from a collaboration between Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw. The musical is about "disappearing small-town America as seen through the hopeful eyes of its youth," according to a synopsis: A “fledgling country singer ... reluctantly comes home after a rough start in Nashville, ultimately to discover that her roots may take her a lot further than her dreams.”
May We All is scheduled to stage a developmental production at Playhouse on the Square in Memphis, Tenn., in 2020, and premiere in Nashville in 2021. Troy Britton Johnson, a former Broadway actor, and Todd Johnson, an original producer of The Color Purple and backup singer, are writing the musical's book. Brian Usifer, currently the music director for Broadway's Frozen, is serving as its arranger and orchestrator.
“I love building, love creating, love being surrounded by an amazing team, and have found endless inspiration in the fact that I can use my voice in any interest that I have," says Kelley. "I couldn’t be more thrilled to have this musical feature the songs of so many of my buddies and artists who’ve inspired me."
May We All will be licensed by Theatrical Rights Worldwide for productions elsewhere after it debuts in Nashville. The musical's crew is also hoping to create a feature film version of the play down the line. In addition to Kelley and his CuzBro Productions company, May We All's other producers include Lively McCabe Entertainment and BMG.
